The Western Union Telegraph Office Removed From Dunmore.
Billings needs a downtown office of the Western Union Telegraph company and a united effort on the part of our citizens and business men should bring about the desired result.
This city has outgrown its infancy, when patrons of the telegraph company have to walk from two to four blocks to send a message. Several months ago a petition was forwarded to the head office at St. Paul requesting the establishment of a down-town office, but the superintendent wrote a reply to the effect that in view of the contemplated change by the Northern Pacific Railroad company in the location of a new freight depot and improved telegraph office, the telegraph company did not feel like making any change at that time. The only improvement in the present office over the old is that it is larger and more accessible, while on the other hand it is a block farther from the business portion.
There is strong talk of the Postal Telegraph company stringing its wires into Billings from the north, and when it does, the Western Union must expect to lose considerable business by reason of its continued refusal to accommodate its Billings patrons.
Another thing, which should receive the attention of the company, is that its messenger boys should often be uniformed or ornamented with a badge designating their capacity, which will be a great help to people in search of them.
