COUNTY COUNCIL IN SESSION YESTERDAY
VOTES FUND FOR COMFORT STATIONS AT COURT HOUSE
Council Appropriates $10,900 for New Bridges in the County-Five Councilmen Present.
Decatur, May 5.-The county council in session this morning appropriated $1,000 for the expense of making the outside entrances to the men's comfort station in the basement of the court house and for opening the south door to the ladies rest room and comfort station on the first floor.
Plans and specifications as prepared by Charles N. Christen, local architect, call for the building of an entrance on the south side of the southeast corner of the court house, under the window of the County Treasurer's office. This entrance will lead to the men's comfort station in the basement of the court house.
The old door to the ladies' rest room on the first floor will be opened and smaller doors placed there. Walks will be constructed around to the entrances and it is planned to keep the places open 24 hours a day and on Sundays.
The county council appropriated $10,900 for new bridges, including $4,500.00 for the Samuel McAhren bridge spanning Yellow Creek in Washington township; $1,500 for the Schwartz bridge, southwest of Monroe; $4,000 for the Jones bridge spanning Blue Creek in Blue Creek and Monroe townships; $900 for the Arnold bridge in Kirkland township, west and south of Peterson.
Bids for the construction of the McAhren, Jones and Schwartz bridges were awarded by the county commissioners this morning.
The county council also appropriated $1,690 for the payment of wages due assessors and deputies for re-appraising real estate this year and $150 for the township trustees who are taking the sextennial enumeration this year of male voters over 21 years of age. The sum of $885 was appropriated to make needed repairs at the county jail, including repairs to the furnace and boilers, roof and spouting, re-papering certain rooms and new linoleum. Five members of the county council were present at the meeting today, they being M. Kirsch, William Baumgartner, Christ. Eicher, Frank McIntosh and Henry Eiting.
