NORTHSIDE VIADUCT
Common Council to Pass Upon Petition of Ginter Park Citizens as Recommended by Committee.
MONEY FOR CITY DEPARTMENTS.
Skip-Stop System May Meet Opposition From East Enders, Who Want Better Service in That Section of City.
Common council will hold its December meeting tonight, with few papers sent down from the board of aldermen, but with several of interest from the finance committee.
An appropriation of a sufficient sum to complete the long-talked-of viaduct across Bacon Quarter branch, connecting Chamberlayne avenue with the city proper, amounting to about $60,000, will be asked, as will be a resolution appropriating a large sum for the expenses of the gas plant for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The ordinance validating the assessments in the commissioner of revenue's levy in reference to bank stock, and a resolution refunding $50 to the promoters of the entertainment at the City Auditorium on Thanksgiving night, with that granting T. P. Hawie, clerk to the treasurer, a three-months' vacation with pay, on account of illness, will be presented from the upper branch.
The skip-stop system, coming from the street committee, may have opposition. It is hinted around City Hall that East End citizens are not satisfied with the plan and will enter objections at the meeting tonight.
The street committee unanimously recommended the system for a ninety-day trial period.
The finance committee will also recommend a lump appropriation of $20,000 to be used by the administrative board as it may deem best for the Virginia hospital, City home, outdoor poor, electrical department, and a transfer of funds in the dock department will be asked to keep the wolf from the door in that department.
A transfer of funds from the city storehouse fund to Shockoe creek will also be asked.
