Hon. W. A. Steel, Mayor of Joliet is in the city, stopping at the Harper House. Mayor Steel has many personal friends and admirers in this city.
Capt. J. Throckmorton of St. Louis, one of the old time captains on the river is in the city for the first time in twenty five years. Time has worked changes with Rock Island and the Captain finds but few of the old landmarks of his early visits left standing.
