Full Text

Maryland—Upon the change of administration in the State Government, there has been a prodigious rush for office. Some idea of it may be gained from the following paragraph, copied from the Baltimore Chronicle:

"We have been informed, that there are upwards of fifty applicants for the office of Lottery Commissioner. Such disinterested devotion to the public service is highly creditable to the patriotism of the Jackson party. When from its own ranks it can furnish so large a number of public spirited gentlemen, who are willing to take on them the burthens of State, no fear need be entertained that any of the offices will go unfilled for lack of lovers of country to discharge their duties."
