SANTA FE, N. M., July 27 (AP)— W. Ward Smith of New York and Los Angeles, who was married in the Palace of the Governors here December 7, 1928, and who returned from a honeymoon around the world, was sued today for two checks totaling $11,780.14.
John F. Remsen of Nassau county, N. Y., is the plaintiff. One check for $6,294.54 was drawn on the Kings Park National bank of Kings Park, L. I., and dated February 6, 1926, and the other, for $5,486.60, was drawn on the Valley Stream National bank of Valley Stream, N. Y., on the same date.
The first was payable to the Schard corporation and the other to the Floard Hay company.
Remsen alleges that the checks were sold, transferred and assigned to him.
At the time of his marriage here Smith was identified by his friends as a millionaire lumberman and secretary to former Governor Nathan Miller of New York.
