The San Francisco Bulletin says: Captain Doane, of the Second Cavalry, who has been on duty in Arizona since December last, has returned to the Presidio at San Francisco for the purpose of shipping a quantity of company property to Arizona. Captain Doane states that the reported murder of the Peck family recently by the hostile Apaches was untrue, and that the murder was committed by a surviving member of the family, supposed to be the husband and father, and attributed to the Apaches to escape the penalty of the crime. A. L. Peck, the father of the family, a former resident of Reno, who avowed his determination to abandon his herds of cattle and appear as an avenger on the Apache trail, at whose door he laid the massacre of his wife and child in a recent letter to the Gazette, is placed in a very unenviable position by the statement of Captain Doane.
