Full Text

Letters from Leeuwarden assure, that the Prince of Orange has protested, in very strong Terms, as well against the Resolution of the States of Zealand, by which they have annexed the Marquisates of Ter Veere and Vlissingen to the Demesnes of their Province, as against that not long since taken by the same States, whereby they declared, that if the Prince continued to refuse accepting of the hundred thousand Crowns, consign'd as an Equivalent for these Marquisates, they would confiscate the same to their Own Use. --- These Resolutions of the States of Zealand seem to have too much of Self Interest in them; so to dismantle the Prince of his indisputable Right to those two Marquisates by Compulsion, is look'd upon as a very extraordinary Step; and what certainly must give Umbrage to a certain Court.

Event Details

The Prince of Orange protested strongly against the States of Zealand's resolution annexing the Marquisates of Ter Veere and Vlissingen to their province and against their declaration to confiscate them if he refuses the 100,000 crowns equivalent. These actions are seen as driven by self-interest, compulsorily dismantling the Prince's rights, and an extraordinary step that will offend a certain court.
