FREE LOVE.—Mayor Wood's police pounced upon a large assemblage of the new sect known as "Free Lovers," assembled in a large saloon on Broadway on the evening of the 19th, and conveyed the ringleaders to prison. The "philosophers," both in pantaloons and petticoats, were somewhat astonished and ashamed at this winding up of their "social gathering." Four men were committed to the cells, viz: Albert Brisbane, disorderly conduct; Thomas Hartland, assault and battery on an officer, and keeping disorderly house; John Henderson for interfering with the police; Benjamin Henderson for attempting to hinder a policeman in arrest of a prisoner. The next morning, Mr. Brisbane was discharged, and the others Hartland and the two Hendersons were held in $300 to appear. The Mayor has given orders that the hall of the club be put under a strict surveillance. The excitement about the City Hall during the proceedings was intense.
