A new gold prospect was discovered on the same creek as previous finds at Porto Rico, located inland west of Robert Loran's ranch in the Maddy, about 15 miles from the reporting location. The Riley district is named after prospector Riley. The surface is hard gravelly cement with gold quartz below in a crevice reported as pay ore. Fabulous tales from returned prospectors on Friday prompted townspeople to leave for the site, with a rush from Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. Specific departures include H. W. Tucker and Wm. Oliver on Sunday, Duncan McDonald, Morgan Williams and others on Monday, many Jones Rone and Joe Bryan on Tuesday, Flannery and Jerry Jock, with more awaiting reports. If true, the camp can be easily supplied from the nearby Maddy Valley, 3-4 miles away.
