115 at Dinner Hear Stirring Talks by Aides
Asst. GS&T Bates Delivers Principal Address at Fete
PEORIA, Ill.--One hundred and fifteen gathered here recently to celebrate the 65th anniversary of Enterprise Lodge 27 at a dinner and hear addresses by Grand Lodge officers of the Brotherhood and Ladies' Auxiliary.
C. A. McGuire, secretary-treasurer of the lodge, served as toastmaster.
Representing President Kennedy and Grand Lodge at the dinner, L. E. Bates, assistant general secretary and treasurer, was principal speaker and in his remarks touched upon operations of the various departments of the Brotherhood.
He reviewed the protective features of the Brotherhood, citing the importance of safety regulations which have been obtained thru legislation, and pointed out the many improvements in working conditions which the BRT has obtained down thru the years.
Kennedy Faces Facts
"Facts that are not faced will stab you in the back." Assistant GS&T Bates told the banqueters.
"Your president, Parker Kennedy, faces facts. He will not sidestep a fight in your interest, or in the interests of labor.
"You want rules changes--he will see that you get rules changes. President Kennedy will lead you; he will guide you and where he leads us we will follow."
The Grand Lodge officer conveyed President Kennedy's regrets at being unable to attend the anniversary celebration owing to previous commitments.
City Attorney Duane G. Stone, representing the mayor of Peoria, and Charles Anthony, acting mayor of East Peoria, attended and extended well-wishes to the lodge.
Mrs. Gussie Johnson, fifth vice-grand president of the Auxiliary, representing Grand President Mary Gorman, discussed LA activities, the insurance protection being offered members and the Auxiliary's accomplishments on the legislative front.
Other guests included Field Supervisor and Mrs. L. E. Monroe, the former's brother, Roger C. Monroe, yardmaster at Springfield, Mo., and BRT-er, and his wife; C. R. (Bob) Maher, Legal Aid investigator, and Mrs. Maher; Martin W. King, 49-year member of 27; Charles Mosher, Toledo Peoria & Western trainmaster and 27 member, and Mrs. Mosher, LA treasurer; W. E. Fearis, 27 president; G. F. Brown, general chairman on TP&W; J. W. O'Hearn, general chairman on Peoria & Pekin Union Railway; Mrs. D. A. Walley, president of LA St. Valentine's Lodge 46, and Mrs. Mabel Rigby, LA 46 secretary.

Field Supervisor Monroe and Legal Aid Investigator Maher spoke briefly.
Lodge 27 was organized Aug. 14, 1884 by Grand General Secretary and Treasurer E. C. Osterhout 11 months after the Brotherhood was founded Sept. 23, 1883 by eight brakemen in a Delaware & Hudson caboose in Oneonta, N. Y.
First master of the lodge was the late S. E. Wilkinson, who was elected grand master of the Brotherhood and served approximately 10 years.
