Full Text

HEART'S-EASE.

As e'er the woods when summer
has fled.
And early snows o'er dying worms are spread,
And empty nests to wind tossed branches cling.
Stripped bare of all the leafy garmenting.
All dead leaves underfoot, snow clouds o'er head;
I sighed, "The summer of my life lies dead."
Then to my heart thy love did answer bring:
"Not dead life's summer, only slumber hushed,
The nesting time and budding to repeat
In season due."
And bending down you
brushed
The dry dead leaves away that hid one sweet
And lovely flower, my steps had well nigh crushed,
And showed me heart's-ease blooming at my feet.
