The Democrat in the Country
Our live contemporary, the Baton Rouge Advocate, thus speaks of the Democrat. We have a very gratifying evidence of the truthfulness of the Advocate's kind words in the many subscribers we are daily receiving from different sections of the country for our Weekly edition:
"The New Orleans Democrat is the standard bearer of our party in New Orleans. By the term our party, we mean the united mass of the white people of that city, the property owners, the men of education and intelligence. All those possessing a permanent interest in the welfare of the city and State. It is doing good service and it should receive an earnest and ample support. Did the merchants and other advertising classes of New Orleans witness the avidity with which it is purchased from the news vendors in the country they would fill its advertising columns.
There is no town or village in the State where it is not a favorite and before the opening of the campaign its muster roll of subscribers will swell to enormous proportions. But the present is the time to aid this sterling journal. Do not wait to be called upon for your subscription. Enclose any amount from fifty cents to three, four or five dollars, with your name and postoffice address, and the Weekly or Daily, whichever you prefer, will be sent for the time that the amount enclosed pays for."
