NEW YORK. - Roy Wilkins, in behalf of the NAACP and thousands of Negro and Puerto Rican non-medical hospital workers, this week thanked New York Governor Rockefeller for ending a two-month strike.
The workers, employed at Beth El Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat, were promised by the Governor that he would ask the Legislature to amend labor laws so that hospital workers may bargain collectively.
Mr. Wilkins, the Association's executive secretary, congratulated Governor Rockefeller "upon the leadership manifested in a time when hospital employees were in dire need of aid in their struggle for a decent standard of living."

THE THOUSANDS OF WORKERS IN VOLUNTARY HOSPITALS ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR ASSURANCE THAT YOU WILL ACT TO BRING THEM UNDER STATE LAWS SO THAT THEY CAN ORGANIZE AND BARGAIN TO IMPROVE THEIR WAGES AND WORKING CONDITIONS. NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE, WHICH HAS BACKED THESE EXPLOITED WORKERS IN ALL THEIR EFFORTS DATING BACK TO THE STRIKE IN 1959, CONGRATULATES YOU UPON THE LEADERSHIP MANIFESTED IN A TIME WHEN HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES WERE IN DIRE NEED OF AID IN THEIR STRUGGLE FOR A DECENT STANDARD OF LIVING.
