Full Text
We do not doubt (says the Democratic Press) that a large proportion of those who are in favor of the Missouri Restriction are animated by humane considerations and act from pure motives, but we do sincerely believe that some of the more active on the same side are animated by the spirit which animated the Hartford Convention, and are moved solely by political motives. Those who have upon Christian Principles and the principles of Freedom, taken an active and zealous part, would do well to review their conduct and examine how far they have been lending themselves for political purposes. It is better now to review than to persevere and probably repent when repentance would be too late, and brought on by scenes which humanity could not witness without horror.
