Committee of Legislature Recommends Amount—Fight May Be Made.
The total biennial budget for the University of Missouri, School of Mines at Rolla and the normal schools of the state, to be recommended in the educational bill, was completed last week by the House Committee on Appropriations, according to today's St. Louis Globe-Democrat. The total is $3,285,656, or $900,958 more than was appropriated for the last biennial period.
Of the total, the University would receive $1,557,000, or $491,000 more than for the previous two years. In view of Governor Gardner's recent statement that appropriation measures should be cut to the minimum, there was considerable speculation in some quarters today as to whether the budget with its increased total might not meet with opposition. Members of the committee, however, expressed the belief that the increases were necessary, in view of prevailing cost standards.
