Full Text
When General Rosecrans' army was afflicted with scurvy, an appeal was made to the Governors of the Northern States for fresh vegetables. All of them except Governor Seymour responded by referring the subject to the several Christian and Sanitary Commissions. Governor Seymour sent one hundred and fifty barrels of potatoes and fifty barrels of onions raised on his own farm. The account from which we condense this statement says they were the only vegetables received before the army marched. Comment is unnecessary.
