Full Text

Gen. Augustus A. Chapman in danger!—Gen. A. A. Chapman, the late representative in Congress from the Botetourt district, some weeks prior to the adjournment of that body, formally announced that he would not be a candidate for re-election. A District Convention was accordingly called by the Locos to nominate a successor. It met; and Gen. Chapman was again nominated, and "nothing loth," consented that fortune might be again "buckled on his back." The Locos of Pocahontas, however, (one of the counties of his district,) recently in public meeting, adopted a resolution, disapproving of his nomination after his unqualified withdrawal, and nominating Fleming Bowyer Miller, Esq. as his successor. Mr. Miller, who had a sort of claim to the nomination, founded upon an alleged understanding with Gen. Chapman two years ago, and quite an itching for the office, has accepted the nomination, and the two gentlemen are now battling over the District.
