A melancholy accident of a singular kind occurred a few days since in St. Genevieve, Miss. A mechanic was preparing a rifle, which he had placed in a vice for the purpose of filing, without examining whether it was loaded, and during the operation of filing, a spark was ignited, which discharged the piece just as a man of the name of La Chance was entering the door of the shop, who received the whole load above the hip, which passed through his body and came out at one side of the back bone. He lived about four hours, and expired leaving a wife and children to lament the accident that has torn from them a kind protector.
