SMELTER HURT TREES: ORDERED CLOSED

(By United Press Leased Wire.)

REDDING, Cal., July 2.-An order from the United States government that the Bully Hill smelter at Delmar shall close down July 1 was obeyed and 400 employes are idle today. Complaints were made to the federal authorities that the smoke from the smelter damaged fruit trees and crops in the vicinity and an investigation was made by the government. The damage was done to trees and crops in an area of two square miles surrounding the smelter.
