Full Text
As the time draws nigh when that august assembly shall hold its session, the public mind is beginning to feel an interest in its probable result. The earnest inquiry, who will be the next President? is often repeated, and none can give a solution of the mystery. It matters little to the nation where, or how, or by whom the other Conventions are held, their effect can not be of long duration and their labors will live only during the canvass.
Whilst our opponents are busily disentombing buried and rotten political hacks to annoy the people, and by reason of time, thinking they will forget to retrospect their prosperity and that of the nation under democratic authority, it is pleasant and cheering to see the noble and dignified course of our own matchless organization,
The very men who compose the delegation to that convention, so far as ascertained, clothe its prospective proceedings, with transcendent dignity, and command the homage and respect of the nation. When such men as Hon. John Cochran of New York, and Caleb Cushing of Massachusetts lead the delegation of their respective States, well may the people of America look with interest upon their assembling.
It is most likely that the delegations of both these States will vote for Daniel S. Dickenson of New York-a more judicious and acceptable choice could not be made-but even should he fail to be nominated we are confident that they will choose a leader worthy of the cause.
