Nov. 29. A letter from Lisbon has the following article: "We have just received advice, dated October 18, that two Barbary galleys chased an American vessel into Funchal harbour, and would have cut her out had not the guns of that fortress fired upon them, which were so well pointed, that at the second discharge they sunk one; most of the crew were taken up by the other, who then sheered off; this event threw the inhabitants into great confusion; and to prevent a sudden attack from these barbarians, the guard has been doubled, and the inhabitants are under arms day and night."
