They are Miss Mary McNabb of Atlanta, Ga., and student at Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama and Miss Catherine Hardy of Carrollton, Ga., and student at Fort Valley State College, Fort Valley, Georgia.
Miss Alice Coachman of Albany, Ga., and at the time a student at Albany State College, represented Georgia and the United States Olympic team in 1948 and won the high jump.
Other members of the team approved by the U. S. Olympic Committee Friday night are: Misses Mabel Landry, Chicago; Mae Faggs, Barbara Jones, Chicago; Constance Darnowski, Brooklyn; Janet Moreau, Boston; Dolores Dwyer, Brooklyn and Marjorie Larney, Brooklyn.
HARDY AND LANDRY SET NEW RECORDS.
Miss Hardy, a triple winner in the National AAU championships last weekend at Waterbury, Conn., broke the old record of 24.4 set by Helen Stephens in 1935 by running the 200-meter dash in 24.3.
Miss Landry leaped 18 feet, 3 inches in the running broad jump to erase the old mark of 18 feet, 1 1/2 inches set by Miss Lula Mae Hymes, also a native of Atlanta, Ga., in 1939.
In addition to the nine women selected here Friday night, four others were recommended to make the Helsinki trip. They are: Misses Janet Dicks, Harrisburg; Ora Lee Allen, Chicago; Theresa Manuel of Tuskegee Institute, who took second in the hurdles, and Caroline McDermott, Norman, Oklahoma.
