The Salem Observer lists several cases where the liquor law was rigidly enforced by Judge Perkins of the Common Pleas Court. In one case, John Robinson of Gloucester, called as a witness, pretended he could not remember buying liquor from the defendant or testifying before the Justice. The Court found it plain he was committing perjury.
