Adjustment of a Church Dispute in Jersey.
Bayonne, N. J., Feb. 12.-The first official announcement as to the basis upon which the difficulty between Bishop Wigger and Father Killeen was adjusted was made in the two Catholic churches of this city, St. Mary's and St. Henry's. Virtually, the decision is a defeat for Father Killeen, because St. Thomas's church is not to be reopened except on occasional and informal fashion at the discretion of Father Ahue or the will of the united parishioners of St. Mary and St. Thomas, and then only on secular days. Father Ahue said today: "Our bishop will probably be accused of Cahenslyism, since German will continue to be spoken in this church. Now, what is Cahenslyism? It is the earnest endeavor of bishops and priests to keep immigrants who cannot speak English from falling away from the church by giving them instruction and exhortation that they can understand, which means in their own tongue. It is their duty to do this, for, if they do not, the immigrant, by the time he has learned English, has fallen away from the church. The letters to Father Killeen and Father Ahue were the same except that the one contained a postscript which promised that if Father Ahue were removed, the bishop would appoint an English-speaking priest."
