Event Details
John Jubeart, born on Staten-Island, a blacksmith by trade, was committed to gaol for passing counterfeit dollars. The quantity found upon him was 10 in number, 9 dated 1763 and one 1761. They are struck with a die, edges milled, dirty white colour tinged with yellow, very little lighter than true ones, impression not so high or broad, two globes between pillars sunk, edge of unequal thickness with milling not joined in one place. They ring well and are supposed to be a compound of copper and tin, lightly silvered over, which may be easily scraped off.
