By a Gentleman from the Bay of Honduras we have the following Intelligence, viz. That on the 17th of May his Majesty's Sloop Swift, Captain Cornwallis, arrived there from Jamaica, with dispatches from his Excellency Governor Littleton, and Sir William Burnaby, Commander in Chief of His Majesty's Fleet in the Leeward Islands, to the Spanish Governor of Merida, relating to the Grievances of our People in the Bay: And that on the 19th Capt. Cornwallis's First Lieutenant went with these Dispatches to Merida, and returned in about three Weeks after with an Answer to them; and brought positive Orders to the English in the Bay to evacuate every Place there, excepting the Old River Balise, and the South Side of the New River, 20 Leagues up; and that if they should be found on the North side of the new River, or at any other Place or Places but the two abovementioned, their Negroes and Effects should be seized, and themselves made Prisoners, till the King of Spain's Pleasure should be known.
