Porter-Wagor-Russell Announces Development
Model Home Is Displayed Here
Looking for a new home - or for ideas to decorate your present one? You might find both in the model home opened by Porter-Wagor-Russell, Inc. on the corner of Fogarty and 12th Street.
This furnished home is being shown by the local building firm as a model for their houses now under construction in Riviera Shores, located on Flagler Avenue between 11th and 13th Streets.
According to E. W. Swanson, Key West Manager of Porter-Wagor-Russell, the development will consist of 32 three-bedroom homes, priced from $14,300 plus closing costs. Down payments for veterans run as low as $1,290, which includes all closing costs.
A number of the homes have already been sold.
The model, furnished by Altman Furniture Company, contains many bright decorating ideas, and the works of several outstanding local artists are displayed.
In the living room and family room, the full-length jalousie windows are treated with a side drape of Fortison fabric with a floral scheme which repeats the color scheme of the room. The full length windows are a construction style note, as well as a big factor for ventilation.
The furniture highlight in the living room is a gray curved sectional sofa. And here, two oil paintings by Larry Karns evoke an insistent and nostalgic sea song. A still life by Karl Agricola lends a quiet vitality. Other artists whose works are displayed are watercolorists J. Wrobel and Lephe Holden.
One bedroom leads a double life! The decorator has treated it as a study, and comfortably endowed it with two day beds for overnight guests. The woven drapes in this room will please both feminine and masculine taste for good looks. A series of matted photographs adorn one wall.
Here's something you might jot down in your notebook for big effect on a little budget. In one bedroom, striped sheets are used in lieu of a bedspread, and also at the windows for cafe curtains. Sheets are available now in such a variety of colors and designs that their potential should not be overlooked as window adornment.
Another decorating highlight, as well as a very practical feature of the homes, is the woven wood doors installed on bedroom closets. They provide the proper ventilation needed in our climate, and accessibility to every nook and cranny of the closet. They fold back with the flexibility of a drape, and add soft beauty to the room.
According to Mr. Swanson, the finest grade rubber base paint, in decorator colors, is used on exteriors and interiors. The custom-built kitchen cabinets come in a variety of colors or in a natural finish.
The model home is open daily from 9 to 5 p. m., and on Saturday and Sundays from 12 to 5.
