America's Most Segregated Hour Is 11 A. M., On Any Sunday
White Preachers, Congregations Do One Thing And Men Do Another
A California bishop recently said that 11 A. M. on Sunday is "the most segregated hour in American life."
This statement bears out our charge that the race mixers of America are the leading hypocrites of all time.
They preach it for the other fellow.
It to the Supreme Court of the United States, the church organizations of America have given more support to the childish and ridiculous effort to amalgamate the races than any other groups.
Preachers Want Mixing
While the preachers preach race mixing and amalgamation, their congregations remain segregated.
People in the congregations walk out and leave the church if the ministers opened the doors and follow down their pattern of segregation.
Consequently, the preachers will get in a conference and they will pass resolutions denouncing segregation as a sin and advocating race mixing in the churches.
No. Not Me, But You
When the preacher gets home, he don't put it into effect in his church because he knows that it will destroy the church and maybe eliminate his job.
Neither will these church officials or preachers who advocate race mixing practice it themselves.
You never hear of them inviting Negroes into their homes for Sunday dinner nor permitting their daughters to date Negro boys.
A Baltimore Preacher
When it comes to their home and their churches, they observe the pattern of segregation in their congregation.
But, they advocate race mixing and what they mean they are for it for the other fellow.
They won't practice it themselves but try to inflict it upon the little children in the public schools.
U. S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, in its issue of Monday, May 9, 1960, quoted a Baltimore preacher as saying:
"The doors of my church would close this year if I publicly declared a non-segregation policy."
But, this race mixing preacher hasn't the courage to stand up for his convictions when it effects his salary.
Magazine Explains Why
U. S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT, in this same issue, quotes the Rev. James A. Pike, an Episcopal Bishop of California, when he said that 11 o'clock on Sunday morning is "the most segregated hour in American life."
And then this magazine undertakes to explain why:
One reason churches tend to draw from neighborhoods—and in U. S. cities, neighborhoods are highly segregated.
As areas change from white to Negro occupancy, some white churches move out.
A reason for this is that churches tend to draw from neighborhoods—and in U. S. cities, neighborhoods are highly segregated.
As areas change from white to Negro occupancy, some white churches have tried to become interracial. Most of these, however, become entirely Negro. In one fashionable section of Chicago, a few years ago, 30 white congregations moved out in a racial turnover.
Two very significant things have happened affecting the churches in the South recently.
Vote Of The Methodist
One is the action of the Methodist Church in its recent Denver General Conference in voting to keep the Negroes in a separate division, as their refusal to cut off funds from Methodist-supported seminaries at Duke and Emory Universities because these two big church seminaries do not take Negro students for the ministry.
The other is the action of the General Assembly of the Southern Presbyterian Church which refused to support their congregations by promoting the ministers who get into trouble with the church's official position that segregation "is against the will of God."
So, today the leaders of the churches are preaching what they won't and can't practice.
Old Hypocrite Ike
They are the same kind of hypocrites as the President of the United States and the other prominent national politicians. They all preach race mixing but in their family and personal lives, as well as in their church affiliations, they refuse to practice it.
The President of the United States advocates race mixing and all the civil rights bills, but when he comes to Augusta he attends a segregated church.
When he goes to church in the nation's capital, or in Pennsylvania even, he goes to a segregated church.
This Evil Scheme
So, it seems that if this evil scheme of race mixing should be Christian, that the Christian leaders ought to set us a good example.
But the truth of the business is that it is not Christian, it is not natural and nothing would destroy our churches and our civilization quicker than race mixing.
So, why do they try to force it on the little children in the public schools?
