Full Text
When he reached the suburbs of the city, the horses were taken from his carriage and drawn by the populace to the Mansion House Hotel. Several infantry companies paraded to escort him to his lodging; but finding that John Binns was to head the parade they were immediately dismissed. It were well if such exhibitions of the Native American Spirit, were more frequent. Our rulers may, if they please, submit to the disgrace, of being ruled, by foreigners who have forfeited their claims to the protection of their own countries--but it should be the business of the American people, to frown these upstarts out of their ill deserved and ill-gotten places.
