Yesterday arrived here the Sloop Gull, Captain Chadwick, in 22 Days from the Havannah, to which Place she had been with Stores for the Connecticut Troops: By this Vessel we have Advice, that about ten Days before She sailed, sixteen Transports, under Convoy of the Sutherland and Dover Man of War, sailed for Spain with the Spanish Troops from thence: .....The Provincials were very sickly there, and it was expected those Troops would shortly return to North America: Captain Stanton, of Col. Lyman's Regiment, lately died. It was reported at the Havannah, that the English Forces were to be employed against some other of the Enemy's Settlements in the West Indies. ..: A few Days before Captain Chadwick sailed a Spanish Brig came into the Harbour, (not knowing the Place was taken) and on seeing the British Flag flying, he endeavoured to get out again, but was prevented by the Men of War's Boats taking Possession of her ....A large Number of Vessels had appeared off the Havannah, which were suppos'd to be sent with Succours to the Spaniards, but on finding the Place to be in the Hands of the English, they stood away to Leeward: and that an English 74 Gun Ship was sent out of the Harbour to gain Intelligence who they were; which was not returned when Captain Chadwick sailed.
