Full Text

Extract of a letter from New-York, Feb. 9.

Yesterday the Sheriff, by warrant from Chief Justice Horsmanden, arrested Captain M'Dougall, as the author of a paper published here by Mr. Parker in December last, addressed "To the betrayed inhabitants of the city and colony of New-York."

On the 18th of that month the Assembly voted it to be a libel, and petitioned the Lieutenant Governour to publish a reward of 100l. to discover the author. One of Mr. Parker's men gave the information, who printed it: Mr. Parker, on examination before the Council, disclosed his employer; the Captain refused to give bail, and stands committed. This causes much bickering here, especially as the corporation lately refused liberty to set up the Liberty Pole on the city ground, which hath obliged the patrons of liberty to buy a lot of land and to place it on.
