Extract of a Letter from London, July 1.
Letters from Oporto dated the 11th ult. mention that the day before, they had received advice, that a party of Portuguese troops, being on their march to Porto, fell in with a party of Spaniards in number about 1000, whom the Portuguese attacked and killed about 250 men, taking near 200 prisoners, the greatest part of whom were so worn out with fatigue that they could scarcely bear arms: The rest returned in such confusion that upwards of 60 were drowned in the River.
By Letters from Lisbon by a ship arrived in the Downs, there is advice that 8 Portuguese ships of war lay in the Tagus ready to join a like number of British men of war of the line, besides frigates which were hourly expected there to proceed against the Spaniards.
