The Knights Templar held their regular Easter service at Simpson tabernacle, on Hope street, yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. At 2 o'clock the members of Cour de Lion commandery, No. 9, assembled at the asylum at the corner of First and Spring streets and, headed by a brass band, marched to the tabernacle, where seats had been reserved for them immediately in front of the pulpit, which was beautifully decorated with callas. The main auditorium was well filled, and the exercises throughout were very impressive. A fine musical program had been arranged, which was splendidly rendered by the Dudley Buck Concert club, consisting of the following: First tenors, J. H. Zinck, A. D. Coombs, A. B. Caldwell; second tenors, W. L. Frew, J. Nicholas, H. S. Eberle; first bassos, C. S. Cornell, J. A. Foshay, L. Zinnamon; second bassos, C. L. Wilde, George Ragland, George Stickel. The club was assisted by Mme. Isidora Martinez, soloist soprano, while Frank H. Colby presided at the organ. The services were conducted by Sir Arthur Brookman, prelate, assisted by Rev. Sir W. W. Tinker. The beautiful ritual was very impressively given by the prelate, the Sir Knights joining in the responses. Rev. Sir W. W. Tinker, in the course of the afternoon, delivered an eloquent sermon. The solo numbers given by Mme. Martinez were: I Know That My Redeemer Liveth, by Handel, and for the offertory, The Risen Lord, by Dvorak. Onward, Christian Soldiers, was given by the full choir and congregation, as was also Coronation. The choruses were very effectively rendered by the club, For God So Loved the World, by McGranahan, calling for special mention.
At the conclusion of the services the Sir Knights re-formed and marched to their asylum, where they disbanded. The following is the committee of arrangements which had charge of the celebration: Sir Arthur Brookman, Sir Niles Pease, Sir John E. Murray, Sir James A. Foshay and Sir William Roumell.
The Sir Knights made a fine showing, over a hundred being in line.
