In the river column of The Bulletin of Friday morning we publish the particulars of the waylaying and brutal assault upon Mr. Thomas Doyle, mate of the steamer Grand Tower, while that boat lay at the wharf in this city. Yesterday about noon a dispatch was received in this city stating that Doyle had died from the effects of his injury. Sheriff Irvin and Chief of Police McHale at once went in search of the negro who committed the assault, and in less than an hour succeeded in capturing him. He is now in the county jail, and will remain there until the next term of the circuit court.

Mr. Thomas Doyle mate of the Grand Tower, who was so brutally assaulted by a negro last Thursday night, died at Memphis from the effect of his injuries yesterday. A negro, known as Bill Campbell, was arrested by Chief of Police McHale here yesterday who confessed doing the deed, and is now in jail here. Mr. Doyle leaves a young wife and two children to mourn his loss.
