ALEXANDRIA:
TUESDAY MORNING, AUGUST 4, 1846.

"PANIC MAKING."

We are happy to see and learn that the Whigs will everywhere discountenance and discourage everything like a panic, likely to ensue in consequence of the recent measures of the government. Having so much to lose, of course, it is their interest as well as their duty, to arrest, if possible, all alarms likely to depress their business and still-farther to injure their prospects -
One of the cruel results of the action of their opponents, is to injure them first by bad legislation; and as soon as the natural effects follow, to cry out that the Whigs are raising a panic! And yet such has been the course of policy pursued for several years past:
