INTERIOR'S PUBLIC WORKS OFFICE CLOSES IN JUNEAU

JUNEAU (AP) -- The Department of Interior's Alaska Public Works Office in Juneau was closed officially Sunday, ending a 12-year construction program in which more than $69 million in federal funds were expended in Alaska.

Since its creation in 1949, the federal agency completed 177 projects in Alaska for cities, school and utility districts and the territory and state of Alaska.

Of the total amount spent, $31.7 million went for schools and $17.2 million was expended for sewer and water facilities.
