Full Text

The Front street organ bewails the fact that our city fathers refused to rush city warrants upon the market to repair streets and bridges. Those lacrimose efforts are "too thin"; and the reason for the economy of our Mayor and City Council is well known to the Republican. Its party tax collector succeeded in getting away with $4,300 in one year, of a $5000 tax levy, and left the tax payers that much or more in debt. As to whether the residents of Third, Fourth and Fifth streets pay as much taxes as those in other portions of the city we have this to say, that the Collector informed us, that 90 per cent of the delinquents on the rolls are "residents of those streets." Perhaps if they would come forward and help Front, Second and other streets pay some of the city expense, their demands for "ditches and bridges" might come with better grace.
