The block of stone prepared for the Washington Monument by order of Kentucky has been delivered in Washington. It is a handsome specimen of drab colored limestone, 7 feet long by 3 feet 4 inches in height. The carving and lettering are executed in a masterly manner, and represent in the centre the full-length figures of the lamented Clay and Crittenden, surrounded by a beautifully executed wreath of oak and laurel, with the words "United we stand, divided we fall." on the inside of the wreath; on the outside is the inscription, "Under the auspices of Heaven and the precepts of Washington. Kentucky will be the last to give up the Union."
