We are glad to see from the following article which we copy from the N. O. Tropic, that this ignominious old traitor is receiving the merited contempt and scorn of men of all parties, Descending from the exalted station to which accident, not merit, had elevated him, and for which he was no more fitted than a buzzard would be to sit on the nest of an eagle, he retires—not to obscurity—for the contempt and derision now follows him to his home—where he can revel in his ill-gotten gains, the produce of fraud and corruption. It is truly humiliating to think that circumstances should ever occur, by which, in any contingency, such a man should be elevated to the highest office in this free & favored nation. Let us hope that the humiliating experience of the past will prevent its recurrence in future.

The following is the article to which we have alluded above.

WAR OF THE ROSES.

The "great Globe," is firing away at John Tyler, in regular man-of-war style. The old recreant having first broached the Texas question, was fully determined to have the "last tug," and so as soon as he had signed the annexation measure, he despatched a special messenger to convey the "glad tidings of great joy," to the dwellers under the Lone Star. In this hasty, most unworthy and uncalled for move, Tyler has displayed more than his proverbial impudence and disregard of decency. Setting at defiance the amendment of the Senate, clearly embodying the popular sentiment, and without which annexation could not have succeeded, Mr. Tyler assumed a power never intended to be exercised by him, and announces that he has decided that Texas shall come in under the joint resolution, and without further negotiation! A more shameless piece of business has never been performed, even by that most shameless of all men, John Tyler. His conduct can be defended in no possible point of view. and we are not at all astonished to find that the powers that be, consider it nothing more or less than flat burglary: and announcing this fact, the Globe is even less mincing in the selection of language than is its wont. Here is what it says:

We understand that Mr. Tyler mounted one of his relations as an express, to hasten to communicate to Texas that he, as President of the United States, had made his election as to the alternatives contained in the late act of Congress, looking to the admission of Texas into the Union and that he had chosen that alternative which it is known could not have commanded a majority in the Senate, and had rejected that which carried the majority in the House up from twenty-two to fifty-six.

Mr. Tyler knows well that Congress did not intend to intrust the discretionary power of the act to his hands. He knows well that, if he had appointed the commissioners necessary under one of the alternatives of the act they would not have been confirmed to carry out his instructions. He has, therefore, seized upon that portion of the legislative enactment, which, if acceded to by Texas, may involve future difficulties in our own Congress, and mar the concord now existing among the friends of the measure, which can alone insure its happy consummation. He has taken the alternative meant by the law to be conferred on the American President whose duty it will be to effect the measure from him, and given it to the Texian executive.
