The Inundation at New Orleans.

New Orleans, May 26th, 1849.

The water in the river is falling, but the city is still flooded, and the water has advanced to Carondelet street, and one square from the St Charles.

There are hopes entertained that Sauve's crevasse will be stopped in eight or ten days, and the work is going on with great activity, under the direction of Mr. Grant, an engineer from Mobile.

The distress among the poorer classes is increasing, as business is nearly suspended.

Great fears are entertained that the cholera will commit fearful ravages when the waters subside.
