Full Text
On Saturday night last our citizens were aroused from their slumbers by the cry of Fire. The fire originated in the Cabinet shop of Messrs. Pierce & Prine at the corner of second and Jefferson streets. Fortunately there was no wind; and through the indefatigable exertions of the citizens it was got under, after consuming the cabinet shop and a one story building attached to the new National Hotel about being opened by Mr. Fletcher. The Hotel itself was in imminent danger and would probably have shared the fate of the other buildings had it not been for the successful efforts of the citizens in pulling down a one story tenement immediately adjoining. The citizens of Burlington deserve much praise for their promptitude and well directed efforts on the occasion. Circumstances have led the public to suspect that the fire was the work of an incendiary.
