San Marcial Reporter.
Of late considerable excitement has been occasioned in San Marcial by the reported finding of large mineral deposits by some Mexicans in the San Mateo mountains some forty miles southwest of this city. Every day for nearly two weeks some bold prospector has shouldered his pick and started out to hunt the newly discovered mining district. The fever struck in every direction and among these prospectors were found merchants, railroad men, blacksmiths, saloon-keepers, cattlemen, doctors, carpenters, old miners of leisure, in fact almost everybody who was "foot loose" including the Reporter man. The Mexicans are working in a shaft about ten feet deep and have already taken out upwards of 3,000 pounds of ore, which they have packed on burros to Socorro, which runs about $200.
The vein which is composed largely of bromide of silver together with some galena, is about two inches wide and quite irregular.
Nearly all of the parties going from this place located some claims in the near vicinity of this mine and will during the coming week commence prospecting, the results of which will be fully given in the near future.
