The Lincoln County Democratic Conservative Convention
Met at Star City on the 29th of July.
On motion, B. A. Wyatt was elected permanent chairman, and J. J. Bolls and W. H. Paschall secretaries.
On motion, the chair appointed a committee of three upon credentials, which reported the names of delegates and alternates entitled to seats: Mill Creek township, B. A. Wyatt, Wm. Payne, T. J. Julian and J. M. Meroney; Smith township, J. J. Bolls and W. H. Paschall; Silver Lake township, Samuel Lenox; Auburn township, James M. Ross and J. C. Cross; Choctaw township, G. Lockhart and W. D. Persons.
Grant, Kimbrough and Bartholomew failing to report, and this convention being apprised that the delegates from these townships were holding a separate convention at this time in Simmons hall, it was unanimously resolved by this convention that the action of those delegates is a fraud, and the delegates so acting are bolters from their party not having the interests of the democracy at heart, but being simply disorganizers, and we call upon the true and tried friends of the democracy to so denounce them and to treat any action of said delegates as bogus and with silent contempt.
This resolution was signed by each delegate whose name appears upon these minutes.
The following named gentlemen were put in nomination and elected by acclamation, save the representative and sheriff, who were elected by ballot: For congress, W. F. Slemons; state senator, M. M. Duffie; representative, H. M. Varnier; county judge, Wm. Brockman; sheriff, R. R. Rice; clerk, A. C. Cook; treasurer, W. S. Ellis; assessor, David White; surveyor, T. A. Ingram; coroner, J. S. Fish; delegates to the senatorial convention to be held at Toledo, county, August 1, 1876, Thomas Fletcher and T. J. Julian; delegate to congressional convention, Thomas Fletcher.
On motion, it was unanimously resolved to indorse A. H. Garland for the United States senate.
On motion, it was unanimously resolved to have the proceedings of this convention published in the Lincoln County Herald, Pine Bluff Press and Little Rock Gazette.
On motion, the convention adjourned sine die.
B. A. WYATT,
Chairman.
J. J. BOLLS,
W. H. PASCHALL, Secretaries.
