It Is Principally Around Santo Tomas—Wheaton Holds All Important Towns In Cavite and Batangas Provinces.
Washington, Jan. 15.—(By Associated Press.)—Otis cables: "Bolomen, armed insurgents and robbers from the Zambeles mountains attacked two companies of the Twenty-fifth infantry, O'Neill commanding, at Iba Jan. 6, and were driven and pursued with a loss to them of fifty men. No casualties. Schwan's troops are east and south of Santo Tomas. Yesterday Cheatham's battalion of the Thirty-seventh struck the enemy east of Santo Tomas on the San Pablo road. The enemy left five dead on the field. The cavalry, soon appearing, pursued the force eastward; but there is no report of the result. Cheatham's casualties were one wounded. Anderson with the Thirty-eighth enroute to Lipa yesterday struck the insurgents a few miles south of Santa Tomas, and drove them thru Lipa to Rosario. The enemy's loss was twenty dead and wounded, sixty Spanish prisoners and $20,000. Schwan has liberated about 200 Spanish prisoners. They are now enroute to Manila. Anderson's casualties yesterday were one man killed and two wounded. Wheaton's force is actively operating in western Cavite and the Batangas provinces. All important towns are held. A great many Filipinos are returning to their homes and are believed to be insurgent deserters."
