Little Rock, Jan. 22. -- Senator Archibald Hamilton of Camden, who recently suffered a stroke of paralysis, Monday morning sent his resignation to the State Senate, and shortly afterwards, Governor Brough appointed Lamar Smead of Camden, a young attorney as his successor. Senator Smead was sworn in by Chief Justice E. A. McCulloch immediately.

Senator Smead is 27 years old and is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and of Cumberland University at Lebanon, Tenn. He is a cousin of and a law partner of Smead Powell of Camden. The appointment adds strength to the administration forces and gives them two majority in the senate.
