HEALTH OF YAZOO CITY.

Since our last issue great excitement has prevailed among our citizens on account of several cases of Fever that have occurred here. There have been two or three fatal cases of Yellow Fever or Dengue as some call it—for it is a disputed point whether the sickness which prevails is Dengue or its first cousin, Yellow Fever and a large number of our citizens have left town.

There is no doubt but that there are a good many cases of the prevailing fever, but we are told it yields readily to treatment and is not at all dangerous if the patient will lie still under blankets and be soaked like a boiled potato for two or three days or more. If he does that, he has a mild touch of Dengue, if he don't, why he will die of Yellow Fever. The continued warm weather is against us and we fear that if we do not have frost in a few days the Dengue will continue to spread, though with the few left in town it will find but few subjects to work upon. A gentleman who is a close observer of matters and things says that he believes the only distinction between the dengue and Yellow Fever is this—if the patient gets well he has had the Dengue. If he dies, he had the Yellow Fever. The accounts in the country have been very much exaggerated. There have been only two deaths that were reported to be of Yellow Fever, and one of these cases was imported. We assure our friends in the country we will endeavor to keep them posted as to the health of the city—as we have had the dengue and are living—we don't expect to die this year of the Yellow Fever.

Since the above was in type, we are told that all the Druggists in the place have not put up a dozen prescriptions for the last two days— They say the town is distressingly healthy. We see the doctors sunning themselves on the sidewalks as if they had nothing to do, and yet there are people circulating dreadful reports in the country about the epidemic that is prevailing here.
