A television station and a new radio station are in the works for St. Croix.
This became known yesterday after the government of the Virgin Islands was approached for land on which to construct these communication facilities.
Location of both the radio station and the TV station is planned for hilltop sites on Estate Recovery Hill, near Christiansted. Land sought to be utilized is owned by the Government of the Virgin Islands.
The operator of the radio station is Radio American West Indies, Inc. Supreme Broadcasting Corporation of Puerto Rico has obtained a construction permit from the Federal government for the new TV station.
In addition to the land owned by the government the operators of the new television station are negotiating for the purchase of privately owned land in St. Croix for offices and studios.
WSVl-TV, as the new television station will be called, will operate on channel 8 and will have a power of ten thousand watts. If antenna facilities can be placed on Recovery Hill the entire Virgin Islands could be serviced.
No definite date has been set for commencement of broadcasting.
