Uncle Sam can pack plenty of wallop with the equipment he has, such as the new 4½ ton 155-mm. howitzer with a range of over 12,000 yards, shown at right in use by Indiana National Guard near Camp McCoy, Wisc. But there's another side to the story. Below: Maybe you won't recognize it, but this is an "81-mm. trench mortar."
There's no danger of this 'gun' going off unexpectedly, for it is a wooden log on a forked stick, set up to train the 106th Infantry, 27th Division, New York National Guard. Both pieces of equipment were in use during army maneuvers.
The 155-mm. howitzer is equipment for the Second Army. The wooden gun serves the First Army in upper New York state.
