Columbus, Ohio. Conservation Commissioner J. W. Thompson is enthusiastic in his conviction that Southern Ohio can be brought back to the ranks of deer hunting states. He points out that the extensive forest areas in Scioto and bordering counties are ideal natural habitat for deer and other game. He hopes that within a few years a short annual open season on bucks will be practical.

On a recent visit to Roosevelt Preserve Mr. Thompson reports that he saw twenty deer in the woods along the drives. The natural increase this season of deer in the preserve and surrounding forests is thought by conservation officials to have been larger than for several years. Illegal hunting has also been more strictly controlled, it is claimed.
